Wake Up! Where Did Your Healthy Back Go?
Most of us were born with a perfectly healthy back. Take a look at children, notice how straight their spines are? Whether they move, stand still, or sit down, their posture is straight as an arrow. Good posture seems effortless for them, it takes them no trouble at all, and guess what, that is exactly how it is meant to be.
Playing, running, moving around, it is all part of being young and alive. And while young it is all effortless and natural. Children, as a rule, don’t need to guard their posture. How many children do you hear saying: I have a back ache? Not many.
But then we go to school, are told to sit still all day, and if we move too much we are told off for it…
We learn to work on computers, sitting still even more and focus on a screen in front of us, only lifting our fingers to push buttons…
And before you know it, too many things just change. All kinds of circumstances make our stress levels go up and our levels of moving around go down. At least, that is true for most of us.
Or we end up in work where we just have to repeat too many of the same moves over and over and over and out…
How Do You Get Your Back To Be Flexible & Healthy Again?
Where did our carefree childhood years go? Why do we move less and less? When did worry creep in? Worry about work, about relations, if we are not careful, we are overwhelmed by worries.
And without even noticing it, our posture changes: instead of upright, we walk bent over forward; we slouch on our couch in the evening, tired from the day’s work. Eventually & inescapably our back sooner AND later suffers the consequences.
Maybe Life Is Telling Us Something?….
Walking Upright – Can You Still Do It?
Wrong posture or lack of body movement are catastrophes waiting to happen, but come they will. And if you look at statistics it is clear that for far too many people who struggle with (lower) back pains, the catastrophes have already arrived.
Walk through a busy shopping street and look around you: How many people still have a beautiful posture? Who still walks upright, without the shoulders leaning forward? And who can truly say that his back has never bothered him?
We all know what the culprit is. But to make changes in your life is not at all easy.
Yes, we live in hectic times. And to be truthful, we are not interested in also having to guard our posture. We are not used to having to do that. It’s like another worry. And we have enough of those already, don’t we?
Still, something needs done because it doesn’t get better by itself. How do we break this downward spiral? How do we get our back flexible and healthy again? The answer is simple…
Take Time To Move Your Back In Shape Again
The first reaction of many people, when told to take up sports, moving and exercises, is: I don’t have time for that!
Edward Stanley had a nice quote on that: “People who think they don’t have time for physical exercise, will sooner or later have to make time to be ill” (from: The Conduct of Life).
Are You Smarter Than Life?…
Of course it is perfectly understandable that we race to get things done, that we slow down on moving and just get on with whatever we think we have to do to get ahead in life…
Here’s a nice question for you though: When are you going to benefit from all your worries? Are you working to live & play or living to work & pay? When do you really think you will be able to take your well deserved rest?…
Ever heard the song ‘Put another Log on the fire’?… There’s a line in that song that says: “Ain’t I gonna take you fishing someday?”…
Well maybe your someday should start TODAY!…
Don’t get me wrong, bills need to be paid, and work must be done, but your body is telling you that the way you are currently doing all that, just does not work well for you. Your body is begging you to give yourself a break. And it is best to take that break before things break…
Life is designed around the simple concept of sowing and reaping, and if you are now reaping back troubles, it is because you have been sowing worry, stress, lack of moving around, slouching etc. etc. in your life.
I know there are bills to pay, but I have also seen around me the first people who never even made it to age 41, or 38, or 63…
And I am pretty sure you have seen similar cases around you as well. If you don’t take time to look after yourself, who is going to do it for you then?…
Too many people live for a future in the distance…
….that will hopefully be fine…
…but if you look honestly at how little they invest in their health today…
…in reality that distant future looks quite dim…
So maybe, just maybe…
Back Troubles, A Blessing In Disguise?…
How about you welcome your back troubles as a signal that you need to look better after yourself? That it is ok to be a better steward of your body…
Still thinking you can’t afford time to invest in getting your back healthy again?
How about this then? Everyone who suffers from back aches, knows how much this restrains your daily activities. Apart from the pain itself, which is annoying and can sometimes be very debilitating, you are also hindered in doing your daily things. Hindered in reaching your so called goals in life…
You either plan more time to get and stay healthy or your health deteriorates to the sad state where you just have less and less energy to pursue whatever you think you need to pursue….
Gardening, shopping, watching little kids, none of this is fun anymore if your back hurts. Some have had to give up these things altogether. Is that the way to get old? I don’t believe any of it.
